BCA sanctioning gives cooks a familiar rulebook, consistent scoring, trained officials, and confidence that every entrant will be treated fairly.
What sanctioning means
Sanctioning means the promoter agrees to follow BCA rules and procedures. The same scoring system is used at every BCA contest, giving cooks a consistent experience and the event added credibility.
All BCA-sanctioned contests must have at least ten teams. Promoters choose either a traditional format, using wood or wood-and-charcoal heat sources, or a non-traditional format that may also allow legal gas or electric heat sources. All other BCA rules apply to both formats.
Plan ahead
Begin the sanctioning process early—ideally at least 90 days before the proposed contest. Review nearby contest and festival dates for conflicts, plan the prize package and site utilities, and allow time for BCA approval and flyer review.
